Overview

Saposhnikoviae Radix, commonly known as Fang Feng, is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine derived from the dried root of *Saposhnikovia divaricata* (Turcz.) Schischk. It is characterized by its content of bioactive chromones, including prim-O-glucosylcimifugin and cimifugin, as well as coumarins and polyacetylenes. The herb is traditionally used to treat "wind-damp" conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, headaches, and spasms. Modern pharmacological studies highlight its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant properties. It has been investigated in clinical trials, often as a component of multi-herb formulas like Tong Xie Yao Fang, for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
