Overview

Saposhnikoviae radix-derived extracellular vesicles (SR-EVs) are plant-derived extracellular vesicles isolated from *Saposhnikovia divaricata* (Saposhnikoviae Radix), a traditional Chinese herb [Su1509]. Developed by researchers at Xi'an Jiaotong University, these nanotherapeutic vesicles exhibit high gastrointestinal stability and colonic retention. In preclinical models of ulcerative colitis, SR-EVs demonstrate potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties by scavenging reactive oxygen species, suppressing M1 macrophage polarization, and downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines [Su1509]. Furthermore, they facilitate intestinal epithelial repair and restore physical, chemical, immune, and biological barriers by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway [Su1509].
