Sapustat is a RADA16-based self-assembling peptide hydrogel developed by Chongqing Fujin Biomedical (Fagen Bio) for local hemostasis and tissue protection. The RADA16 peptide is a synthetic amphiphilic sequence that undergoes spontaneous assembly into stable, highly hydrated nanofiber scaffolds when exposed to physiological pH or electrolytes. This transition creates a physical barrier that stops bleeding from capillaries, veins, and small arteries without relying on the biochemical coagulation cascade. Sapustat is primarily positioned as a medical device candidate for managing gastrointestinal bleeding during endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) or endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), as well as for treating oral mucosal ulcers, radiation proctitis, and providing hemostasis in neurosurgical procedures. It is currently in the preclinical stage, with animal studies completed and regulatory filings for a medical device master file in progress.
