saquinavir + ritonavir

Saquinavir + ritonavir is a fixed-dose combination of two small molecule antiretroviral drugs used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Saquinavir is an HIV protease inhibitor that blocks the activity of the viral protease enzyme, preventing cleavage of viral polyproteins and thus inhibiting maturation and replication of HIV. Ritonavir acts as both an antiretroviral agent and a pharmacokinetic enhancer; it inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4, thereby increasing plasma concentrations and bioavailability of co-administered protease inhibitors like saquinavir. This combination is indicated for use with other antiretroviral agents in highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) regimens for HIV infection[1][2][3][5].
