SAR-Bombesin is a radiopharmaceutical theranostic agent developed for both the diagnosis and treatment of cancers that express the gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR). It consists of a bombesin-based peptide ligand, which binds with high affinity to GRPR, conjugated to copper radioisotopes (such as copper-64 or copper-67). This allows targeted delivery of diagnostic or therapeutic radiation to GRPR-expressing tumors. The drug is being developed primarily for prostate and breast cancers but has potential applications in other GRPR-positive malignancies such as ovarian, urinary, small cell lung cancer, glioblastoma, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Its mechanism involves specific binding to GRPR on tumor cells followed by internalization and localized radiation-induced cytotoxicity[1][2][3][4][5].
