Overview

SAR150640 is a potent and selective small-molecule agonist of the beta-3 adrenergic receptor (ADRB3). Developed by Sanofi, it was primarily investigated for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB). By stimulating the beta-3 receptors located on the detrusor muscle of the bladder, the drug promotes muscle relaxation during the storage phase, thereby increasing bladder capacity and reducing the frequency of involuntary contractions. This mechanism offers an alternative to traditional antimuscarinic therapies, which are often limited by side effects like dry mouth and constipation. Clinical development reached Phase 2, but the program was eventually discontinued by the sponsor.
