Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sarcomeal is a multi-ingredient oral nutritional supplement formulated to address sarcopenia, particularly in the context of diabetes. It contains a combination of whey protein, creatine, branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), glutamine, and beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB). The supplement is designed to stimulate muscle protein synthesis, primarily through the activation of the mTOR pathway by leucine and other BCAAs, while HMB and glutamine work to inhibit muscle protein breakdown (proteolysis). Creatine is included to support cellular energy metabolism. Clinical evidence from randomized trials indicates that Sarcomeal, when supplemented alongside Vitamin D3, can significantly improve lean muscle mass and help maintain body weight in patients suffering from diabetic sarcopenia.
