Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sargassum horneri ethanol extract (SHE) is a natural product derived from the brown seaweed *Sargassum horneri*, an edible alga found in East Asia. The extract is typically produced using 70% ethanol and contains bioactive compounds such as phlorotannins and mojabanchromanol. It has been investigated in preclinical research for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties. SHE has shown potential therapeutic effects in animal models of atopic dermatitis, asthma, skin inflammation, and depression-like behaviors. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway and the suppression of the NF-κB and MAPK pathways, leading to reduced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like TSLP and IL-13 and the restoration of skin barrier proteins like filaggrin.
