This is a combination therapy consisting of three agents: sargramostim, SurvaxM, and temozolomide. Sargramostim (marketed as Leukine) is a recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) that stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic progenitor cells, thereby increasing white blood cell counts and enhancing immune function[1][5][9]. SurvaxM is a peptide vaccine designed to stimulate an immune response against survivin, an anti-apoptotic protein overexpressed in many cancers; it acts as an immunotherapy by inducing T-cell mediated cytotoxicity against tumor cells expressing survivin. Temozolomide (marketed as Temodar or Temodal) is an oral alkylating agent used primarily in the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme and other brain tumors; it works by methylating DNA at the O6 and N7 positions of guanine residues, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis in rapidly dividing tumor cells[6][8][10]. This combination aims to enhance anti-tumor immunity while directly targeting cancer cell survival.
