Overview

Sargramostim + zidovudine is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents: sargramostim, a recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and zidovudine, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI). Sargramostim stimulates the production and function of white blood cells, specifically neutrophils, macrophages, and eosinophils, thereby supporting immune function. Zidovudine inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by preventing viral RNA from being converted into DNA, essential for viral replication. This combination may be explored for synergistically enhancing immune function in the context of HIV therapy, leveraging sargramostim's myeloid-stimulating effects together with the antiviral action of zidovudine.
