Overview

Sarilumab is a fully human monoclonal IgG1 antibody that targets the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R), blocking both its soluble and membrane-bound forms. By inhibiting IL-6-mediated signaling, sarilumab reduces inflammation associated with autoimmune diseases. It is primarily indicated for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis who have had an inadequate response or intolerance to one or more disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). Sarilumab can be used alone or in combination with methotrexate or other non-biologic DMARDs. It is also approved for use in polymyalgia rheumatica in patients who have not responded adequately to corticosteroids, and has been studied in polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The drug was developed by Sanofi and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals[1][3][4][5][7][8].
