SARNA Sensitive Lotion

SARNA Sensitive Lotion is a topical anti-itch formulation containing 1% pramoxine hydrochloride, a small molecule local anesthetic. Developed and studied by Wake Forest University specifically for the treatment of uremic pruritus in adult hemodialysis patients, the lotion works by stabilizing the neuronal membrane of local nerve endings in the skin, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses to provide relief from itching. In a randomized, double-blind, controlled trial (NCT00693654), the pramoxine-based lotion demonstrated a 61% decrease in itch intensity compared to a bland emollient control. The 'Sensitive' formulation is specifically designed without menthol or camphor to be suitable for patients with sensitive or compromised skin, such as those undergoing hemodialysis.
