Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sarocladium strictum ethyl acetate extract is a fungal extract derived from the secondary metabolites of the endophytic fungus Sarocladium strictum. It is currently being investigated for its potential as a malaria transmission-blocking agent [1.1]. In preclinical evaluations, the extract demonstrated the ability to completely block the transmission of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum to Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes in standard membrane feeding assays (SMFA) [1.1]. Active fractions of the extract have been shown to significantly reduce the number of oocysts in mosquitoes, serving as a starting point for isolating and identifying potent antimalarial lead compounds [1.1].
