Sarpogrelate + aspirin

Sarpogrelate + aspirin is a combination of two antiplatelet agents used primarily for the prevention of recurrent cerebral infarction and other serious vascular events. Sarpogrelate is a selective antagonist of the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT2A) receptor, inhibiting serotonin-mediated platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction. Aspirin irreversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX), thereby suppressing thromboxane A2 production and reducing platelet aggregation for the lifespan of platelets. This combination has been studied in clinical trials to compare efficacy and safety in secondary prevention of stroke, particularly in Japanese patients[1][4][5][6]. Sarpogrelate may be especially useful in diabetic populations due to its favorable bleeding profile compared to aspirin[4].
