Overview

SARS alphavaccine is an investigational vaccine developed by AlphaVax using its proprietary alphavaccine platform to target the coronavirus responsible for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). The vaccine utilizes Viral Replicon Particles (VRPs) derived from an attenuated Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis (VEE) virus. In this system, the structural genes of the alphavirus are replaced with the gene for a SARS-specific antigen, typically the SARS coronavirus spike protein. When administered, these non-replicating RNA particles infect host cells and express the target antigen, triggering robust humoral (antibody) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses without producing new infectious viral particles. This technology is designed to combine the safety of a killed vaccine with the high immunogenicity of a live virus vaccine.
