Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VidPrevtyn Beta is a monovalent, recombinant protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine developed through a partnership between Sanofi and GSK. It consists of a prefusion-stabilized version of the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein derived from the B.1.351 (Beta) variant, produced using a baculovirus expression system in insect cells. The vaccine is formulated with GSK's AS03 adjuvant, an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, DL-α-tocopherol, and polysorbate 80, which is designed to enhance the immune response. VidPrevtyn Beta is primarily indicated as a booster dose for adults who have previously received mRNA or adenoviral vector COVID-19 vaccines. Clinical studies demonstrated that this Beta-variant-specific formulation provides broad cross-neutralizing antibody responses against multiple variants of concern, including the original D614G strain, Beta, Delta, and Omicron (BA.1). It received marketing authorization from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in November 2022.
