Overview
SARS-CoV-2 Omicron (BA.5) challenge strain is a live-virus preparation developed by Hvivo for use in human challenge clinical trials. It is specifically designed to induce a controlled SARS-CoV-2 infection in healthy volunteers to evaluate the pathogenicity of the Omicron BA.5 variant and to establish a standardized model for testing the efficacy of vaccines and therapeutic interventions. The virus is typically administered intranasally to mimic natural infection. Unlike a vaccine or therapeutic, this is a "challenge agent" used to intentionally infect healthy volunteers in a controlled environment to study the virus's pathogenicity, establish the minimum infectious dose, and provide a model for testing the efficacy of future vaccines and antivirals.
