Overview
**SARS-CoV-2 recombinant protein vaccine (monovalent B.1.351, Alternative Exploratory Formulation 2) + AS03 adjuvant** is a COVID-19 vaccine formulation designed to target the B.1.351 (Beta) variant of SARS-CoV-2. It consists of a recombinant spike protein (based on the Beta variant) combined with the AS03 adjuvant. The AS03 adjuvant is an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, polysorbate 80, and DL-α-tocopherol, designed to enhance the immune response by stimulating both humoral and cellular arms. The vaccine induces neutralizing antibodies and elicits broad cross-variant immunity, including responses against Omicron subvariants. This formulation has been studied primarily as a booster in individuals previously vaccinated with other COVID-19 vaccine platforms[1][3]. Developers include Sanofi, with adjuvant technology from GSK, and clinical development support from BARDA[1].
