The SARS-CoV-2 recombinant spike receptor binding domain vaccine is a protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by Verndari. It utilizes a recombinant version of the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein as its primary antigen. A key feature of this vaccine is its delivery via the VaxiPatch™ system, a microneedle array dermal patch designed for transdermal administration. This platform is intended to be pain-free, stable at room temperature (eliminating the need for refrigeration), and potentially suitable for self-administration. The vaccine works by priming the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies against the RBD, which is the critical portion of the virus that binds to human ACE2 receptors to facilitate cellular entry.
