Sasanlimab is a humanized immunoglobulin G4 monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits the programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) receptor, an immune checkpoint expressed on T cells, B cells, dendritic cells, natural killer cells, and macrophages. By binding to PD-1 and blocking its interaction with its ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2, sasanlimab prevents downstream inhibitory signaling that suppresses T-cell activation. This mechanism enhances the immune system's ability to recognize and attack cancer cells. Sasanlimab is administered subcutaneously and is being investigated primarily for use in oncology as an immunotherapy agent in various solid tumors. It has shown efficacy in combination with Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) for high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), where it significantly improved event-free survival compared to standard of care alone[4][5][6][7].
