Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sasanquasaponin (SQS) is a triterpenoid saponin primarily extracted from the seeds of *Camellia sasanqua* or *Camellia oleifera*. It is a bioactive component used in traditional Chinese medicine, recognized for its diverse pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, and anti-tumor activities. In oncology research, sasanquasaponin has demonstrated the ability to inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion of prostate cancer cells. Its mechanism of action involves the suppression of the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by downregulating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR and Smad2/3 signaling pathways. Preclinical studies in xenograft mouse models have shown that sasanquasaponin can significantly reduce tumor growth, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic candidate for cancer treatment.
