Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SASPject AP6.2 is an engineered, non-lytic bacteriophage therapeutic in preclinical development (Lead Optimisation) by SASPiPhi for the treatment of infections caused by *Acinetobacter baumannii*. Developed using the proprietary SASPject platform (originally created by Phico Therapeutics), the drug consists of a modified bacteriophage designed to act as a targeted nano-delivery vehicle. Upon binding to and infecting *A. baumannii*, the phage injects a gene encoding a small acid-soluble spore protein (SASP). Intracellular expression of SASP leads to its binding to bacterial DNA, shifting the DNA conformation from B-like to A-like. This non-sequence-specific binding inactivates the bacterial DNA, halting replication and transcription, and rapidly killing the pathogen without lysing the cell or promoting resistance.
