Overview

SASPject SP1.5 is an engineered bacteriophage therapeutic being developed by SASPiPhi for the treatment of bloodstream infections caused by *Staphylococcus aureus*. Utilizing the proprietary SASPject platform, the therapy employs a modified, non-lytic bacteriophage as a nano-delivery vehicle to deliver a gene encoding a small acid-soluble spore protein (SASP) directly into target *S. aureus* cells. Once inside, the host bacterial machinery synthesizes the SASP, which binds to and inactivates bacterial DNA in a sequence-independent manner, leading to rapid cell death and preventing the development of resistance. SASPject SP1.5 is currently in the lead optimization (preclinical) stage of development.
