Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SASS-002 is an investigational small molecule carbonic anhydrase inhibitor being developed by Shionogi Apnimed Sleep Science (SASS), a joint venture between Shionogi and Apnimed. The drug is specifically designed for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are thought to treat sleep apnea by stabilizing respiratory control and reducing loop gain, which helps prevent the repetitive collapses of the airway during sleep. SASS-002 represents a pharmacological approach to OSA, a condition traditionally managed with mechanical interventions such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices.
