SataPhage is a bacteriophage cocktail developed by Intralytix for the treatment of infected wounds, particularly those caused by multidrug-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA). The product consists of a mixture of naturally occurring lytic bacteriophages that specifically target and lyse *S. aureus* cells. The mechanism involves the phages attaching to specific receptors on the bacterial cell wall, injecting their genetic material, and initiating a lytic cycle that results in the destruction of the host bacterium and the release of new progeny phages. This targeted approach is designed to clear the infection while preserving the surrounding commensal microbiome. SataPhage has completed a Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating its safety and tolerability in patients with chronic wound infections.
