satralizumab

Satralizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor. It is used for the treatment of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), a rare autoimmune inflammatory disease of the central nervous system characterized by demyelinating lesions primarily affecting the optic nerve and spinal cord. Satralizumab works by binding to both soluble and membrane-bound IL-6 receptors, thereby inhibiting IL-6-mediated signaling pathways involved in inflammation and autoantibody production. The drug was developed to reduce relapses in NMOSD patients who are positive for anti-aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibodies[1][2][3][5][7].
