Overview

Satumomab (B72.3) is a murine monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes tumor-associated glycoprotein 72 (TAG-72), a mucin-like glycoprotein complex expressed on the surface of many cancer cells, including those from colon, ovary, breast, and pancreatic tumors[1][2][3][4]. The antibody was developed for diagnostic purposes and has been used as a radiolabeled agent (Indium In-111 satumomab pendetide; trade name OncoScint) for radioimaging of colorectal and ovarian tumors[5]. Its mechanism involves binding to TAG-72 on tumor cells to facilitate detection via imaging or immunohistochemical assays. Satumomab was the first approved diagnostic antibody used for imaging cancer cells but is no longer commercially available as a marketed product[5].
