SAX201 is a recombinant live-attenuated vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. It utilizes a human parainfluenza virus type 3 (hPIV3) vector to deliver and express the RSV fusion (F) protein. Designed for intranasal administration, SAX201 aims to induce both systemic and mucosal immunity, providing a dual layer of protection against RSV, which is a leading cause of lower respiratory tract infections in infants and the elderly. By using the hPIV3 backbone, the vaccine also potentially provides protection against parainfluenza virus type 3 infections, making it a bivalent candidate. The developer, Guangzhou Sinanxin Biotech, is advancing the drug through early-phase clinical trials in China.
