Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SB-121 is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a proprietary formulation of the bacterium *Lactobacillus reuteri*. Developed by Scioto Biosciences using its Activated Bacterial Therapeutics (ABT) platform, SB-121 is designed to promote the formation of bacterial biofilms, which enhances the colonization, stability, and efficacy of the therapeutic bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. The candidate is primarily being investigated for the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), targeting the gut-brain axis to improve behavioral symptoms, and for Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) in premature infants. Scioto Biosciences, which is majority-owned by Genome & Company, has advanced SB-121 into Phase 1 clinical development for ASD.
