SB-36 (also known as SBL-01) is a small molecule drug candidate developed by **SeaBeLife Biotech**. It acts as a unique **dual inhibitor of regulated necrosis**, specifically targeting both the **necroptosis** and **ferroptosis** pathways. SB-36 works by inhibiting the kinase activity of **Receptor-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase 1 (RIPK1)**, a key mediator of necroptosis, while simultaneously preventing the lipid peroxidation that drives ferroptosis. This dual mechanism is designed to protect cells from inflammatory and oxidative damage in conditions characterized by massive cell death. The drug is primarily being investigated for the treatment of acute conditions such as **acute kidney injury (AKI)** and **acute liver failure (ALF)**, as well as chronic neurodegenerative and ophthalmic diseases like **age-related macular degeneration (AMD)**.
