Overview

SB-568859 (also known as GSK-568859) is an oral small molecule inhibitor of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2). It was developed by GlaxoSmithKline (now GSK) for the treatment of atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases. The drug acts by inhibiting Lp-PLA2, an enzyme implicated in the inflammatory processes associated with atherosclerotic plaque formation. Clinical development reached phase 1, but further development was discontinued[1][2][3][8].
