SB1703 is a novel small molecule immune modulator that targets high-mobility group box (HMGB) proteins, specifically HMGB1. Developed by Spark Biopharma in collaboration with Seoul National University, SB1703 is designed to alter the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Preclinical studies in melanoma models indicate that the compound reduces the population of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and lowers systemic levels of HMGB1 and interleukin-6 (IL-6). SB1703 has demonstrated potential as both a monotherapy and in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors, where it exhibits synergistic anti-tumor activity by modulating myeloid cell populations within the tumor microenvironment.
