Overview

SB208 is a topical nitric oxide-releasing gel developed by Novan, Inc. (now a part of Ligand Pharmaceuticals) for the treatment of superficial cutaneous fungal infections, specifically interdigital tinea pedis and onychomycosis. The therapeutic utilizes Novan's proprietary Nitricil technology, which employs berdazimer sodium as a nitric oxide-storing macromolecule. The drug is supplied as a two-component system consisting of berdazimer sodium and a hydrogel that are admixed immediately prior to application. This reaction triggers the controlled release of nitric oxide, which provides broad-spectrum antifungal activity against dermatophytes such as *Trichophyton rubrum* by disrupting fungal cell processes. SB208 has demonstrated efficacy and safety in Phase 2 clinical trials for tinea pedis.
