Overview
SBD111 is a synbiotic medical food developed by Solarea Bio for the dietary management of postmenopausal bone loss, including osteopenia and osteoporosis. It is composed of a synergistic combination of live microbes sourced from healthy foods along with prebiotic fibers. SBD111 acts via the gut-bone axis; it is designed to survive gastrointestinal transit, acidify the local environment, and engage the intestinal epithelium to improve barrier function and suppress pro-inflammatory signaling. By reducing the secretion of chemokines such as IL-8 and CXCL1, it mitigates the chronic inflammation that drives osteoclast activity, thereby preserving bone mineral density. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing bone loss in postmenopausal women, particularly those with osteopenia or elevated BMI, while also improving gastrointestinal symptoms.
