SBFI102 is a small molecule inhibitor of Fatty Acid Binding Protein 5 (FABP5), an intracellular chaperone involved in lipid metabolism, cell signaling, and growth. Developed through a collaboration involving Stony Brook University, MaineHealth Institute for Research, and Tufts University, SBFI102 is being investigated for its potential to treat multiple myeloma (MM). High expression of FABP5 in MM cells is associated with poor prognosis, and SBFI102 has demonstrated the ability to induce cytotoxicity and inhibit proliferation in various human and mouse myeloma cell lines, although it appears less potent than related compounds like SBFI103 and SBFI1143.
