Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SBG002 is an investigational, extended-release antibiotic formulation developed by Sonoran Biosciences for the prevention and treatment of serious orthopaedic infections, including surgical site infections (SSI), osteomyelitis, and periprosthetic joint infections (PJI). The product utilizes Sonoran's proprietary SB Gel technology, a liquid-to-solid phase-changing hydrogel that is applied locally during surgery. Once applied, the viscous liquid solidifies into a gel that provides sustained release of vancomycin directly at the site of potential infection for several days. This localized delivery achieves high therapeutic concentrations of the antibiotic to eradicate bacteria and biofilms while maintaining low systemic exposure, thereby reducing the risk of systemic toxicities such as nephrotoxicity. SBG002 is currently in the IND-enabling and preclinical stages of development.
