Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**SBG003** is Sonoran Biosciences' preclinical, fixed-dose local antimicrobial product for prevention of surgical site infection. It combines the aminoglycoside antibiotic **tobramycin** and the glycopeptide antibiotic **vancomycin** in the proprietary SB Gel extended-release, injectable hydrogel system. Following intraoperative instillation, the formulation conforms to surgical-site surfaces, forms a local gel depot, and releases antibiotics over multiple days to provide sustained local concentrations while limiting systemic exposure. SBG003 is intended for high-risk procedures including abdominal, colorectal, cardiac, and orthopaedic surgery; it has shown activity in preclinical colorectal and orthopaedic surgical-site-infection models and received FDA Qualified Infectious Disease Product designation for prevention of surgical site infection after abdominal surgery.
