Overview

SBG004 is an extended-release formulation of bupivacaine designed for the treatment of postoperative pain. It utilizes a proprietary temperature-responsive polymer (poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-dimethylbutyrolactone acrylamide-co-Jeffamine M-1000 acrylamide), abbreviated as PNDJ) to form a gel at body temperature, creating a depot that releases bupivacaine locally over several days. This approach aims to provide effective analgesia for 3–5 days or longer, potentially reducing or eliminating the need for opioids after surgery. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that SBG004 can provide analgesia lasting up to 120 hours in animal models and may outperform current local anesthetic options in both duration and efficacy[1][2][5][7].
