Overview

SBI-101 is an investigational cell therapy product developed by Sentien Biotechnologies. It is a combination product that integrates allogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) within an extracorporeal blood-filtration device, designed to deliver MSC-secreted immunomodulatory factors directly to the patient’s blood in a controlled and sustained manner. The device connects to standard renal replacement therapy circuits, allowing for simultaneous delivery of standard care and MSC-mediated blood conditioning. The primary mechanism of action involves immunomodulation—reprogramming the immune response associated with systemic inflammation, restoring homeostasis, and promoting tissue repair in severe organ injury such as acute kidney injury (AKI), sepsis, and COVID-19-related complications. Unlike traditional intravenous MSC administration, this ex vivo approach maintains cell viability and activity throughout treatment duration[1][4][5][6].
