SBI-102 is an investigational exosome-based therapy developed by SHIFTBIO. It consists of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes engineered to overexpress signal regulatory protein alpha (SIRPα), which targets the CD47 antigen. The therapeutic approach aims to simultaneously promote removal of pathological cells (by enhancing phagocytosis through the CD47/SIRPα axis) and regeneration of damaged tissue via the regenerative properties of MSC-derived exosomes. SBI-102 is being developed primarily for liver disorders such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and acute liver failure, with additional preclinical exploration in fibrotic and inflammatory diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and severe alcoholic hepatitis. The drug leverages SHIFTBIO's proprietary nanovesicle/exosome platform technology to address unmet needs in complex organ damage where both lesion clearance and tissue regeneration are required[1][2][3][9].
