SBI-425 is a small molecule, potent, selective, and orally bioavailable inhibitor of tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP). It effectively inhibits TNAP activity both in vitro and in vivo, with potential therapeutic applications in diseases involving inappropriate calcification, such as vascular calcification and certain genetic conditions. SBI-425 was developed by the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute. The drug is being researched for its ability to inhibit calcification in vascular models and has shown promise in reducing arterial media calcification in animal studies. SBI-425 does not significantly affect calcium or phosphorus metabolism but may have effects on bone mineralization.
