SBI0206965 is a potent and selective small molecule inhibitor of Unc-51-like kinase 1 (ULK1), a serine/threonine kinase that plays a central role in the initiation of the autophagy pathway. By inhibiting ULK1, SBI0206965 blocks the formation of the autophagy initiation complex, thereby suppressing autophagic flux. It is widely utilized as a research tool to study the role of autophagy in various pathological conditions, including cancer, inflammatory diseases, and viral infections. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in inhibiting cell growth and inducing apoptosis in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and prostate cancer cells, often sensitizing them to chemotherapy. Additionally, it has shown potential in reducing inflammation in models of psoriasis and suppressing SARS-CoV-2 infection in ex-vivo lung tissues.
