Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SBK001 is an investigational, inhaled small molecule phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor being developed by Chengdu Shibeikang Biopharmaceutical Technology for the treatment of lower respiratory tract diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. By inhibiting the PDE4 enzyme, SBK001 prevents the degradation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in inflammatory cells, leading to increased intracellular cAMP levels and the subsequent suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokine release. The drug is specifically designed for local delivery via inhalation to maximize therapeutic efficacy within the lung tissue while minimizing the systemic exposure and gastrointestinal side effects often associated with oral PDE4 inhibitors. SBK001 is currently in early-stage clinical development in China.
