Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SBL03 is an investigational small‑molecule ophthalmic gel being developed by SeaBeLife as a first‑in‑class, non‑invasive topical treatment for degenerative retinal disorders, particularly geographic atrophy and dry age‑related macular degeneration. It acts as a dual inhibitor of regulated necrotic cell death pathways, specifically targeting necroptosis and ferroptosis, to prevent necrotic retinal cell death and preserve photoreceptor and retinal pigment epithelium structure and function in models of retinal degeneration.[1][2][3][4][6][7][8][9][10] Formulated as an ophthalmic gel for eye‑drop delivery, SBL03 has shown in vivo preclinical efficacy with adequate retinal penetration and protection against retinal degeneration, and is being advanced through a joint development and manufacturing collaboration with Unither Pharmaceuticals toward first‑in‑human clinical trials.[2][3][4][5][7][8][9][11][12]
