Overview

SBP-301 is a preclinical mRNA-based therapeutic candidate developed by SML Biopharm in partnership with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA). It is designed for the treatment of Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS), a viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the SFTS virus (SFTSV). The drug utilizes SML Biopharm's proprietary mRNA/LNP (lipid nanoparticle) platform to deliver mRNA encoding a neutralizing antibody. Unlike traditional vaccines, SBP-301 belongs to the 'In-vivo Protein Expression Therapeutics' category, where the patient's own cells are leveraged to produce the therapeutic antibody directly, providing a potential treatment for infected individuals.
