Overview

SBS-371 is a first-in-class, orally bioavailable small molecule being developed by Sparian Biosciences for the acute treatment and prophylaxis of opioid overdose. It acts as an irreversible antagonist of the mu opioid receptor (MOR). Unlike traditional reversible antagonists such as naloxone, SBS-371 is designed to provide more potent and longer-lasting protection, specifically targeting synthetic opioids like fentanyl and its derivatives. The compound is currently in the lead optimization stage of preclinical development and was developed in response to the increasing prevalence of synthetic opioid overdoses, which require more robust pharmacological interventions.
