SBX-201

SBX-201 is a small molecule bacterial beta-glucuronidase inhibitor being developed by Symberix, Inc. for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and Enterobacteriaceae infections. The drug is designed to selectively target and inhibit harmful bacterial beta-glucuronidase activity within the gut microbiome without killing beneficial microbes. By preventing the reactivation of glucuronidated drug metabolites in the intestine, SBX-201 aims to mitigate drug-induced toxicities, such as diarrhea, and treat lower gastrointestinal disorders. SBX-201 is currently in preclinical development and represents a novel approach to microbiome-targeted therapy that avoids the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
