Overview

SBX-3 is a second-generation, dual-targeting small molecule therapeutic being developed by Symberix for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and associated pain. It acts as a broad-spectrum inhibitor of bacterial β-glucuronidase enzymes within the gut microbiome, preventing the reactivation of toxic metabolites in the intestinal tract without disrupting beneficial microbial populations. Additionally, SBX-3 targets an undisclosed human protein involved in regulating immune and inflammatory responses. Unlike the company's lead candidate SBX-101, which is designed to mitigate drug-induced GI toxicity, SBX-3 is positioned as a monotherapy for the underlying disease pathways of IBD.
