Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SC-Islets is a stem cell-derived islet therapy initially developed by Semma Therapeutics and later acquired by Vertex Pharmaceuticals. This therapy is designed for the treatment of type 1 diabetes, aiming to replace the insulin-producing cells that are lost in the disease. The underlying technology was exclusively licensed from Harvard University. Development efforts have focused on scaling manufacturing and creating an immune-protective delivery device to advance the product candidate into clinical trials and achieve clinical proof-of-concept.
