Overview

SC379 is a preclinical, investigational cell therapy product consisting of human glial progenitor cells (hGPCs) derived from pluripotent stem cells. It was developed by Sana Biotechnology as a potential treatment for neurological diseases characterized by glial cell dysfunction or loss, such as Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease. The therapy aims to replace diseased or dysfunctional glial cells in the central nervous system with healthy allogeneic hGPCs capable of differentiating into both oligodendrocytes and astrocytes. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that transplanted hGPCs can engraft in the brain and effectively outcompete resident diseased glia, leading to significant replacement of pathological cells over time[4][6]. As of late 2024, development has been suspended while Sana seeks partnerships for further advancement[3][5][9].
